Meridian 10 Harry Potter Fanfics

Harry Potter universe is phenomenally popular among fanfiction writers and readers. There are not simply thousands of fan-written stories available to read online, but also multiple websites dedicated to hosting Harry Potter fics of all lengths and genres. Information technology comes as no surprise that well-nigh stories are average at best, and many are incomplete. That existence said, some HP fanfics are truly outstanding, and - cartel I say information technology - rival the original in terms of how well thought-out and written they are.

Finding such stories is not easy. FanFiction.net communities and the impressive collection at FanFicAuthors.internet practice help a lot, simply it tin still be a striking-and-miss affair. With that in listen, I created this folio to share the best Harry Potter fanfics I've ever read.

All of the fics I've listed are Harry-centric.

All of the fics I've listed are Harry-centric.

Disclaimer

  1. This list is based on my personal opinion. Your taste might be different, and I'm certain I've missed plenty of adept stories that I simply didn't take the pleasure of reading. You are more welcome, however, to share own favorites in the comments.
  2. Some stories contain more than mature themes compared to the original heptalogy. Fanfiction.net has its own content ratings system, and then if you lot are concerned about content inappropriate for younger readers, make certain to check the story's rating commencement. Other websites mentioned here also take similar filters in identify.
  3. I do my best to keep the reviews spoiler-costless, just I'm not a great reviewer so they might contain some data beyond what is mentioned in the story's summary.
  4. All stories are consummate unless stated otherwise. This does not include sequels (which may exist complete or non). I've had to ignore some very promising fics, but it can't be helped as in all likelihood they volition never be finished.

#1. Harry Potter and the Last Horcrux

Genre: Action/Gamble, Drama, Romance, Tragedy

Harry Potter and the Last Horcrux past Mike aka Full Pensieve is ane of the most well-written, and the near realistic HP fanfic that I've ever read. When I say realistic, I mean it in terms of portrayal of the Second Wizarding War and how information technology affects the Muggles, the detail that went into expanding the Harry Potter globe, and the actions and emotions of the characters. It is still very much a fantasy story, and magic plays a crucial function in it.

The story starts with more than mature and grown-up characters making a last stand up against Voldemort. The atmosphere is dour and melancholic, but very believable unlike many other HP fics which attempt to exist "night". There is a certain rest, and promise is never lost.

Harry Potter and the Last Horcrux was started back in 2006, and was only recently completed. If you have read this story earlier, you might recall the 2 endings, one of which was unfinished. Thankfully, the author completely rewrote and finished the story, and y'all can at present read the whole matter.

#2. Bungle in the Jungle

Genre: Action/Adventure

Bungle in the Jungle and its sequel Plough Me Loose by JBern are my long-time favorites. It was difficult choosing between them and The Lie I've Lived past the same author, but the latter will be getting a sequel while Bungle is complete. Regardless, I highly recommend reading all of this writer's stories if you enjoy well-written activeness and a confident, independent Harry. Rest assured: he doesn't become a badass with superpowers overnight. At that place's always a long road ahead of our hero at the beginning of the fic, but he gets at that place through hard piece of work, will, and sheer decision. And if he does beat Voldemort, it's through a real battle rather than a lucky fluke!

It's not just action, either: JBern'southward accept on animagery and a unique cursebreaking / warding system he created truly deserves praise.

P. S. if you bask jbern'south writing style, you might be interested in his published works.

#3. Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality

Genre: Adventure, Drama, Humor, Rational Fic

Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality by Less Wrong is probably the almost unique HP fanfiction piece in beingness. Information technology tells the story of a very different Harry Potter: brought up past his scientist stepfather and a loving aunt Petunia, the boy possesses an intelligent, inquisitive mind and a good for you bit of skepticism. That'due south why learning of Hogwarts and the existence of magic is such a shock to him. Harry, yet, doesn't suspension downwardly but rather approaches magic using logic and the scientific method. This is essentially a story of him trying to larn how magic works, and why do wizards do seemingly ridiculous things.

HPMOR is so popular that it has its own website, fanart, and a huge following (and for a expert reason). At 122 chapters and a whopping 661k words, it will proceed you occupied for days.

#four. Stages of Hope

Genre: Activity/Take a chance, Drama, Tragedy

The story of Stages of Hope by kayly silverstorm is every bit follows: a year and a half after Bill's and Fleur'south wedding, Harry and his friends are withal looking for the Horcruxes. Voldemort has taken over the Ministry building, and most of the Order is dead. During the Horcrux search, a freak magical accident occurs which transports the group to an alternate dimension - like to their own, only as well subtly dissimilar.

Curl to Keep

I thought I didn't like tragic / night fics until I read this ane. Then I realized that most authors just can't write this genre very well. Merely killing off your characters one past one does not brand a tragic fanfic. You also need to create an emotional connection between the reader and the characters, and don't forget to show a glimmer of hope even in the darkest situations. Stages of Promise does this well. I felt genuinely sad for the characters, just I also laughed at the occasional black sense of humor. All-in-all, information technology's a very well-written and remarkably believable fic.

#5. White Knight, Greyness Queen

Genre: Action/Adventure, Romance

Jeconais has written a number of stories that substantially follow the same formula: Harry meets a daughter, she helps him gain confidence, the pair destroys their enemies and live happily ever after. And it works: the stories are certainly entertaining to read, and if you're a sucker for happy endings like I am, you volition definitely be satisfied. My personal favorite from Jeconais is the White Knight, Gray Queen which is one of his longest works, and features some interesting characters and an unusual pairing (Harry/Pansy).

#6. A Black Comedy

Genre: Comedy, Action/Adventure

There's enough of funny Harry Potter fan-fiction, but few stories are every bit well-written and imaginative as A Blackness Comedy by nonjon. In this story, a twenty-something Harry gets sucked through the Veil during a magical experiment. Surprisingly, it turns out to be a portal to an alternate dimension - one which Sirius entered before him. Reunited with his uncle, Harry makes it his mission to mess with the lives of his friends and enemies, and more often than not have fun. There's plenty of crude sense of humor in this story, but information technology's not just mindless entertainment: A Black Comedy likewise features an interesting take on the Harry vs Voldemort conflict.

#7. Harry Potter and the Wastelands of Time

Genre: Activeness/Adventure, Fourth dimension Travel

Harry's determination to win against Voldemort leads him to making a pact with the devil (figuratively speaking). Every bit a result, their disharmonize escalates until it threatens the very beingness of our world. Harry gains new, fearsome powers, but also makes new enemies that are more unsafe than he could take imagined. This story is definitely ballsy in scope, simply sometimes it'southward a bit all over the place which is why I haven't ranked it higher. Wastelands of Time is complete, and its sequel Heartlands of Time is in progress.

http://world wide web.fanfiction.internet/south/4068153/1/Harry_Potter_and_the_Wastelands_of_Time

#viii. Indifference and Fail

Genre: Drama, Comedy

At starting time, Indifference and Neglect might seem similar cypher more than Harry interim cold or lashing out at everyone. Y'all will soon realize that this isn't like most angst fics though: it's more the case of Harry simply deciding to stop giving a damn. Everyone expects something of him or wants to control his life, and the young magician has had plenty. This conclusion has unexpected consequences in the second half of the story.

Even though information technology is serious for the most part, Indifference and Fail has some funny moments too. The fic has enough of confrontations, but non a lot of action.

#9. Harry Potter And The Summer Of Change

Genre: Activeness/Adventure, Drama, Romance

Fans of the Harry/Tonks pairing will surely enjoy Harry Potter And The Summertime Of Change by Lord Dwar. It is a gritty and often grim story of Harry growing stronger and taking command of his own life. I definitely enjoyed Lord Dwar's version of Harry who is no longer content with getting by on luck lonely, and tries to improve himself and really larn from his mistakes. On the other hand, I felt that Harry's graphic symbol was changing also fast when I was reading the story. He definitely doesn't become a mighty, confident wizard overnight, but 3 months of summer is still a very brusque time to substantially get an adult.

http://lorddwar.fanficauthors.cyberspace/Harry_Potter_And_The_Summer_Of_Change/index/

#10. Apprentice Potter

Genre: Action/Take a chance, Drama, Romance

I of the best Harry Potter fanfics I've ever read is Amateur Potter by Draco664. Hunted past the Expiry Eaters, at odds with the Ministry, and not seeing heart-to-eye with the then-called "Lite Side", Harry finds an unexpected marry who takes him on as an Apprentice. The story is remarkably well-written, believable, and entertaining. It also features a rather unusual Harry/Blaise pairing (Blaise is a girl in this story).

I would have loved to rank this fanfic college in my listing since I enjoyed it a lot. Sadly, while Apprentice Potter and its starting time sequel Journeyman Potter are complete, the third installment Primary Potter is unfinished and seems to be abandoned. I still think it's worth a read, and the first two fics stand well on their ain.

I really savor Canon harry (young, stupid simply somewhat street smart, powerful but not terribly and so) harry/fleur harry/gabby stories that have the relationship emotionally developed and not forced together through magic. What i would really like to come across though, is that story, eventually pb into somekind of Dark Harry/Dark Fleur/Gabby story.

Harry Crow - awesome story

Ariel1999 on Baronial 29, 2017:

I agree with some of the other commenters' additions, especially Kid of Hogwarts series - which is currently in volume 3 and really has been great; and Backwards with Purpose. Both of these authors are fantastic in perfectly capturing JKR'due south classic tone, especially the Child of Hogwarts series.

CrazyGuy on July xv, 2017:

The Marauders Plan, Harry Crow, and A Run a risk Run across are my iii favorites

I love reading OC stories, and I by and large use wattpad to read them aswell.

I particularly love it when the main graphic symbol is a Hufflepuff.

I'm certainly gonna be checking out some of these, but meanwhile, you should try Tightly Knit {Fred Weasley} by kmbell92 because information technology's an extremely well written story on wattpad and it has its own series aswell and her books are tied together.

nethra on April xix, 2017:

A Study in Magic by Books of Modify is another jewel of a fic!! It'southward an AU that crosses over seamlessly with sherlock and even has several OCs which I'm attached to simply as much as the canon characters, sometimes more then. it'southward well written with some practiced character evolution and is novel length. A Study in Magic is completed, but its sequel is withal a WIP with the last update sometime last week (simply totally worth any wait guys)

Katiekat on March 02, 2017:

Commentarius by B.C. Daily. It's not finished yet, merely it's legit 1 of the nearly freaking hilarious things you will always read in your life. It'south 700,000+ words, but and then totally worth information technology.

It's a Maurader's era fanfic, and it's from the point of view of Lily Evans, in a hilariously witty, self-deprecating and frequently slightly insane diary format. I'grand in love with this protrayal of Lily. Often she's seen as this pure, perfect flower, either too stuck upwardly or likewise wonderful. Comm. Lily is funny, flawed, a compulsive liar, brilliantly mad, and suffering from a slight Inferiority Circuitous. Non to mention James is wonderful. He'south hilarious (all characters are in Comm, in ane way or some other), non tooo prank oriented, actually cares virtually people, and has his own character faults and scars.

This may seem like a daunting read, simply the action doesn't let up for ane minute. At that place'due south not much of Voldemort/Death Eaters/war, just it's engaging, and shows a lot of how people tried to deny information technology'southward existence for then long, even when things were so terrible. Information technology'southward a light, wonderful, read, and despite information technology'southward enormity, I finished information technology in a week, and I've read is half-dozen times since then. Not even kidding. It's that proficient.

And honestly, if yous demand just one more than reason to read this...

Milk. Read it for the milk. And James Potter's hilarious obsession with Infallible.

Harry Potter and the Prince of Slytherin by the Sinister Human being

Literally one of the best WBWL stories I've always read. Updates are a bit ho-hum, but it's still updating and over 500k words.

For Hogwarts: A Regency Adventure by Subversa

Really skillful Sevmione fic. Like really good.

The All-time Revenge by Arsinoe de Blassenville

Super cute and well-written Snape-rescues-Harry fic. Information technology has a sequel and a happy ending!

Mudsnake by Flye Autumne

I of the rare Slytherin!Hermione fics. Reimagines a past for Hermione. Emotional at times, and superbly written

Gabriel by Shikatanai

Exquisitely written, hasn't been updated for over a twelvemonth :'(

bearding on December 02, 2016:

The Backwards with Purpose series past deadwoodpecker is exquisite. What makes it so, is that the characters are written so true to form, that it is most indistinguishable from Rowling's.

The gypsy caravan

The queen who brutal to globe & its sequels

These r admittedly gorgeous fics

MichelleMarie on Baronial 25, 2016:

Just found this...

I similar your choices, only the All-time fanfic out there right now in my opinion is the "Child of Hogwarts" serial past AimeretVivre. They're new, the author only simply starting posting in March or Apr or something, but the first volume (The Lion, the Snake and the Chamber) is complete and around 220,000 words, and the 2d (The Marauder Legacy) is already well underway. The writing is fantastic and the fic is perfect for those people who similar something that is written in the style of Rowling (this author could honestly ghost for her, their styles are so simmilar) and uniform with the characters and earth she'southward created. Child of Hogwarts follows canon pretty closely at times, but makes divergences that build and grow over the class of the story. The book is also written from several POV characters, which makes even the parts we've seen in Rowling'southward books new and interesting again. The author doesn't rush any of the story or character development, and it runs the gambit from action to emotional to intellecutual and back again... actually a great set of stories.

Harry has a couple of mentors, just Dumbledore is the main mentor figure (with some McGonagall and some Snape in Book ane, and now some Lupin in book 2). I think the sequel is even ameliorate than the first and then far, as she has started to incorporate scenes from the showtime war too. And the updates are really fast. There aren't any Harry pairings notwithstanding because he's still nigh xiii in the story... it's hard to tell at this point where the author plans to become on that front.

VeeMo on August 11, 2016:

The Inquisitors Son... hands down the best nextgen Scoripus/LilyLuna fic Ever

AsuiKitsune on August 11, 2016:

Y'all forgot "My Immortal", in my years of reading fanfiction, i can safely say that this is i of the all-time fanfics I've ever read. It has a great blend of character interaction, love, and drama.

Anonymous on July 24, 2016:

Secrets of Midnight by lizzy0305 is i of my favorites. It is a slash with Harry/ Severus and has some syntax errors due to the authors native linguistic communication not being English. It is as well very explicit, just if yous like that you will enjoy the story. Wink, wink.

I actually haven't read any of these stories. My absolute favourite story has Hermione as principal character and information technology'due south about time travel. It's not a fix-it, though. It'southward called 'The Debt of Time' by Shayalonnie on Fanfiction.

I read all 154 chapters in 1,v days. It'south that good!

TheVth on May 30, 2016:

Saving Connor is amazing. It'southward a Harry/Twin as Savior fic, which while atrocious in so many stories is beautiful in this i. The characters are complex, with personal goals and bodily development. The writer, Lightning on the Moving ridge, creates a world of culture and history in which Harry must grow in and become his own person. It's a fascinating story with an accurate take on the consequences of childhood abuse, while assuasive the characters to move by it and become strong in their own rights. If you lot haven't read it, you're missing out.

The Life and Times by Jewels5 is far and away the best fanfiction I've ever read. Information technology'due south James/Lily and covers their 6th and 7th years at Hogwarts.
